The errors and contradictions in the Bible were known in antiquity. In the Middle Ages a sense of literalism prevailed in reading the Bible. So when scholars of the 17th century noted the same contradictions, they were decried as heretics. But slowly men began examining the Bible the way they examined other ancient literature and a new discipline, Biblical Studies, was born. A 71 minute lecture.
